Portraits in Places

A combination of alla prima and glazing methods of painting figures and portraits, this course provides well researched practices, exercises and studies in drawing and painting. Students work from live models and photo references. They complete exercises and studies in developing sound drawing skills, discover rewarding colour palettes and colour relationships and learn to stage the steps that lead to the completion of a successful work of art. Although most students elect to work in oils, acrylics can be used. Beginner students will benefit from working in a class of mixed levels in skill development.

Abstract Realism: Power in Contrasts

A real contradiction in words but not in practice. Learning to abstract in painting and drawing opens the artist up to the freedom of choice in subject matter, painting genre and paint application. How do we abstract? What is a true abstract painting? What is the purpose of abstraction in a realism painting? What do the masters of abstraction and realism have to teach us? With lots of references to resources found on the Internet, best practices of master artists and sound studies and exercises in observational work, students gain valuable knowledge designed to help further their artistic development. This course will benefit all levels of entry.
